With countless gifts of love, and still is ours to day.
Who from our mother’s arms hath blessed us on our way
Who wondrous things hath done, in whom his world rejoices;
Now thank we all our God, with heart, and hands, and voices,
tr. Catherine Winkworth (1827-1878)
Episcopal Hymnal 397
Happy Thanksgiving! What a wonderful time this is to gather together with others and give thanks for all of the blessings that God has graciously given us. Out of that gratitude comes our call to help and serve others, and to share this Divine Love in everything we do. And if we do that, our love for each other grows and deepens, and we experience even more deeply the blessing of God’s great love for us.
Please spread the word about our Saint John’s Fundraising Concert on Saturday evening, Dec. 2 beginning at 6 p.m. with a sparkling cider, wine and cheese reception in the narthex. A superb string quartet will be performing the music of Haydn, Schubert and Beethoven in support of the needed repair of our historic stained-glass windows at 7 p.m. Invite your friends! Tickets can be bought online through Eventbrite.com (search using “string quartet”) as well as at the door. See the flyer below for more information. If you wish to give more than the ticket price in support of the restoration work, we will be happy to list you on the program as a benefactor!
Our Stewardship Mailing has gone out. Thank you for your generosity and support of Saint John’s Church in so many extraordinary ways. We are dependent on your creativity, good hearts, energy, volunteer service and donations. You matter! Please prayerfully consider the surprising gifts that God has given you this year and be generous in your offer of continuing or new volunteer service and monetary pledge. Pledge cards may be brought or mailed in to be place in the offering plate and blessed on Stewardship Sunday, Dec. 3, the First Sunday of Advent.
It is not too late to join the Saint John’s Festival Choir to sing at the Christmas Eve Service at 9 p.m.! Our next rehearsal is on Wednesday, 29 November from 5:45-6:30 p.m. in the Church and the three following Wednesdays in December (Dec. 6, 13, 20). For more information, please contact Bob Sirota (firstname.lastname@example.org).
May God watch over those who are travelling; may our precious time with family and friends be blessed; may God be with those who are alone on Thanksgiving that Christ’s love may enfold them, and may we all thank God and rejoice in the gift of life on this fragile earth, our island home.
In Christ and with love,
The Reverend Canon Victoria Sirota
