From Mother Vicki

Collect for the Fifth Sunday in Lent
Almighty God, you alone can bring into order the unruly wills and affections of sinners: Grant your people grace to love what you command and desire what you promise; that, among the swift and varied changes of the world, our hearts may surely there be fixed where true joys are to be found; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  Amen.
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

We are now moving towards the end of Lent.  In our Collect for the Fifth Sunday in Lent we ask for grace to love what God commands and to desire what God promises.  This request to align ourselves with the Divine plan is about allowing ourselves to let go of trying to control everything and allowing our hearts to “be fixed where true joys are to be found.”  Deepening our relationship with God through Jesus Christ makes all the difference.

Our Saint John’s Festival Choir, in preparation for Easter Sunday, continues with Wednesday afternoon rehearsals in the Church on April 10 and 17 from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. as well as Saturday, April 20 at 10 a.m.  It’s not too late to join us!

We are using Presiding Bishop Michael Curry’s materials on “The Way of Love” for our Lenten Study.  This gentle and loving course will help deepen our devotion and ways of thinking about God, ourselves and others.  Please feel free to join us for our last two Thursday evening sessions on April 4 and 11 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. in the Church Office.  Please let me know if you are coming so that I will have enough materials on hand (mothervsirota@gmail.com; 914 969 2969).

We are very proud of Bettye Malone, who is the Unit Committee Chair for our Boy Scout Troop 4.  She has worked as an actress, singer, teacher, and case worker, and is an active community volunteer. She was recently honored with the Thomas J. Caramadre, Jr. Humanitarian Award as one of the 27th Annual Yonkers Women of Excellence 2019 Honorees.  Congratulations to you, dear Bettye!

We are sending out letters with Easter Offering envelopes as well as envelopes for Easter Flower Contributions to honor loved ones.  If you wish to have names included in our Easter Bulletins, they must be turned into the Church office by Tuesday, April 16 at noon.

May your Lenten journey help to deepen your relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Lenten blessings and love,
The Rev. Canon Victoria R. Sirota
