Almighty and everliving God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
This Sunday, April 14, is Palm Sunday Service. We begin Holy Week by blessing the palms outdoors and singing “Hosanna.” By the end of the service, we have read the Passion, and have become the crowd that yells, “Crucify him, crucify him.” On Maundy Thursday, April 18, we share an Agape Supper at 6 p.m., and then let Jesus wash our feet, share in the Last Supper and follow him to the Garden of Gethsemane as the altar is stripped and we move to the Lady Chapel for silent meditation. At noon on Good Friday, April 19, we read the passion, venerate the cross, pray and sit numb with grief as our dear Lord’s crucifixion and sacrifice become a reality. Then we wait.
One of the great joys of our Christian faith is the miracle of Christ’s Resurrection. On Sunday, April 21, we will joyously celebrate this great Feast Day with wonderful music and triumphant hymns. Praise be to God who has given us the victory through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
Please join us for these holy services. May your Lenten journey help to deepen your relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Lenten blessings and love,
The Rev. Canon Victoria R. Sirota
