From Mother Vicki

The Rev. Canon Victoria Sirota

Collect for the Seventh Sunday of Easter: The Sunday after Ascension Day
O God, the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: Do not leave us comfortless, but send us your Holy Spirit to
strengthen us, and exalt us to that place where our Savior Christ has gone before; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Today is Ascension Day.  How fitting yet how difficult it was to lay dear Helen Hutchinson to rest at Mount Hope Cemetery on this glorious day as we remembered Christ’s ascension into heaven and broke bread together in celebration of Helen’s life.  Thank you to everyone who helped with Helen’s Wake last night as well as those who helped today with her Funeral Mass and the lovely luncheon after.  Thank you for the wonderful stories you have shared about this great soul who epitomized the absolute best of Saint John’s in terms of kindness and compassion, servant leadership and love.  I am grateful for the gift of meeting so many people who grew up in this parish, whose names I have heard and who continue to carry wonderful memories and emotional and spiritual attachment to this body of Christ.  We will miss Helen Hutchinson terribly, but she did get a wonderful send-off complete with bagpipes and a Yonkers Police escort to the Cemetery!  God bless dear Helen!

Don’t forget our Penny Social this Sunday at 12:30 p.m. and Choir Rehearsals today and next Wednesday as we gear up for Pentecost Sunday on June 9th, celebrating the gift of the Holy Spirit on Christ’s disciples.

Helen, you taught us so much about treating everyone as family.  Help us, in your memory and in honor of Christ our dear Lord, to keep up that wondrous love.

Ascension blessings and joy,
The Rev. Canon Victoria R. Sirota
